When a host of pleasures stole my time
When I engaged in smoking, drinking and sexing
When I sowed the seeds of my foolishness
When vices lorded over my tender heart
When I forgot to heed papa’s words against such vanities.
But today is a new day
When time must be of essence
When the fool must learn to be wise
When the gentle, wise and saintly must be sought for
To know that life has the balance of joy and pain
To heed the counsel of the elderly about booze, sex and friendship
For strong wine is a mocker
For rightless sex corrupts
And unguarded friendship destroys.
