Record Label Executive and Programmes Manager at Accra based Hitz 103.9 FM has opined that the election machinery in place at MUSIGA is such that it would be near impossible for any candidate other than the incumbent or ordained candidate by the exiting president to win.
According to Mark Okraku Mantey, there is need to expand the electoral college of the Musician Union of Ghana as the 150 current delegates can easily be swayed, coerced or bribed to vote for the incumbent president which happens to be Bice Osei Kufuor stressing that even if Obama or Nana Addo challenged Obour they were bound to loose.
He alleged that Obour used cash to buy his presidency in the previous elections adding that the ‘konkontiba’ hitmaker had intimated that should he decide to go for a second term it was going to be an easy ride.
The man who helped groom the career of Dasebre Dwamena and many others further pointed out that the Music Week celebrations was a way of rewarding loyalist and part of Obuor’s campaign strategy.
Mr. Mantey made the disclosures as a panelist on Hitz FM’s morning show hosted by Kwesi Appiah also known as Black Eye. Touching on the challenges of movie producers, the Mentor judge singled out Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as being the leader who understood the need to have an efficient audio-visual unit as an arm of governance and development indicative of the many schemes he rolled out to boost the sector.
He observed the Germans and Americans likewise invested heavily in their film industry leading to propaganda laden film and documentaries highlighting their strength especially in the case of the Americans in the Vietnam War.
The veteran in the music business further urged stakeholders in the film industry to lobby relevant parliamentarians in passing the film bill as was done for the music bill so the industry can thrive.
On the election scheduled for 29th October 2015 in Koforidua, the Eastern regional capital, presidential candidate, Gyedy Blay Ambulley has threatened to place an injunction on the elections citing a reluctance of the Musician’s Union of Ghana to offer him the list of delegates so he could visit them to sell his message.
However administrator of MUSIGA, Ahuma Ocansey aka Daddy Bosco explained when reached on phone that although there was delay in compiling the list of delegates, candidates have been offered the list as at Monday. He noted that Ambulley could not feign ignorance of the delegates as they comprise of regional executives of the union and paid up members.
According to Bosco, he was aware Ambulley as well as Appietus, another contender have all been to the regions meeting delegates therefore wondering why Ambulley was crying foul.
He however assured that preparations were far advanced for a successful election to be held and duly supervised by the Electoral Commission.
