Headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League, First Capital Plus Bank, has decided to suspend its contract with the Ghana Football Association.
In what began as a rumour a couple of months ago, the wholly Ghanaian-owned financial institution has now officially written to the Ghana FA to freeze the remainder of its 5-year sponsorship of the Ghana top flight league until further notice.
According to sources, the bank is undergoing policy reviews and restructuring following a change in their leadership.
FCP Bank’s sponsorship of the Ghana league was signed in February 2014 under CEO John Kofi Mensah who later resigned in June this year.
The bank which rescued the league with a $10million sponsorship has since appointed Reverend Fitzgerald Odonkor as Managing Director.
It is understood that the new Ghana FA Executive committee is yet to meet and deliberate over First Capital Plus Bank’s decision to freeze its sponsorship of the GPL.
