The delay in offering party manifestos ahead of the December polls has attracted criticism from well-meaning Ghanaians. While the governing National Democratic Congress has set September 21 as the launch date in the Brong Ahafo region with highlights to be presented tonight at the State House, the opposition New Patriot Party has finally settled on October 8 as its manifesto launch date.

The Convention People’s Party says the party is ready to launch its manifesto also. Communication Director, Abdul Rauf Kadri however failed to give a definite date although he claims the document is ready.

The People’s National Convention’s Atik Mohammed for his part gave a more sold answer when he stated that the PNC’s manifesto will be launched before September expires adding the document has been sent to a printing house for 5,000 copies to be produced.

The General Secretary explained the party does not want a situation where a launch will be done while the public can’t lay hands on the document.

The delay of the political parties in offering their manifestos with the exception of the Progressive People’s Party does not amuse Political Marketing Analyst and University of Ghana Business School lecturer, Dr. Kobby Mensah.

He averred, political manifestos are the tool used by the electorate to interrogate the policies of the parties.

According to Dr. Mensah, political parties hurt their fortunes with the manifesto delays because their supporters are constrained when they go out to propagate their ‘gospel’.
