jay-z-ooJay Z has been announced as a member of this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees, a first for a rapper.

“This is a win for US,” Hov tweeted, following the announcement. “I remember when rap was said to be a fad. We are now alongside some of the greatest writers in history.”

Songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit tracks for at least 20 years. Jay Z offered his debut album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ in 1996.
