Vodafone Foundation Saves Over 3000 Pregnant Women

Vodafone Ghana Foundation, in partnership with Divine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC) has brought relief to over 3000 distressed pregnant women through a free community ultrasound scan project designed to provide timely maternal health care solutions to deprived communities in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The 2-year piloting project, which begun officially in May 2015, is currently being implemented in the Akuapem South, Ayensuano, Suhum, and Atiwa district in the Eastern region of Ghana, saving women from many complications and death whilst increasing antenatal coverage and improved maternal and child health.

Speaking on the intervention, Ebenezer Amankwah, Corporate Relations Manager at Vodafone Ghana, said;

“In the Atiwa District, for example, a middle-aged woman who came for a scan, was startled with the news that her foetus has apparently died and was decaying in her womb. We quickly referred her to the Engirisi Hospital for further expulsion. This was done successfully by the doctors and she is now in good health. We are happy to be at the forefront of bringing efficient healthcare to Ghanaians in real time. We are looking forward to hearing more of such success stories across the country.”

The technological intervention is funded by the Vodafone Ghana Foundation and supported by Joy Industries and the Ghana Health Service. It is aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality rate in the Eastern region with the use of modern technology of ultrasonography.
