Often while on TV and radio, they present angelic faces and voices and one would easily mistake them as persons of integrity.

But as has been emerging for some time now, another TV personality, Afia Ansaa Ampene who rose to national fame hosting the ‘Mmaa Nkommo’ talk show on Ghana Television is accused of fraud together with his son Stephen Kwabena Osei.

You see, Maud Botwe is the Managing Director of Dan Maud Company Limited, dealers in Nestle, Unilever and other products whom Madam Afia and son approached at Weija in Accra between October 31 and November 4, 2016, to part with goods totaling GH¢265,988 with the claim that they were delivering same to an unnamed NGO to bring the proceeds.

Auntie Afia then issued two post-dated cheques with the face values of GH¢40,000 and GH¢60,000 but while the GH¢40,000 cheque presented went through, the GH¢60,000 cheque presented was dishonoured by the bank.

Auntie Afia as she is fondly called later went to the company and convinced the accountant, collected the bounced cheque and deposited GH¢10,000 and promised to bring the balance of GH¢215,888 same day by the close of banking hours.

The accused persons owing GH¢215,888 rather vacated their house at New Sabrepo near Michel Camp and went into hiding.

Maud had wind that another complainant had dragged Afia and son to the police station on February 1, 2017 which eventually led to Afia getting smoked from her hideout at the Tema Devtraco Estates with Stephen taken at Haatso in Accra.

At the Accra circuit court presided over by Ruby Naa Adjeley Quayson Afia and son, the accused persons admitted the offence in their caution statements and refunded GH¢10,000 [which was handed over to Maud in open court].

The two have been admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢205,900 with three sureties each who are earning a salary not less than GH¢1,000 a month.

Such wolves in sheep’s clothing. Goodness.
