On Monday, February 13, 2017, broadcaster and law man, Nii Arday Clegg parted ways with Accra based Starr 103.5 FM. The reasons are robed in rumours as the employer and the former employee won’t say categorically what led to the dissolution of the union.
What is clear however is that Arday Clegg who has proven he is no push over when provoked enough will lay bare the facts.
The suit loving man is not new to the media. Before year 2000 and as a student at the University of Ghana, Arday served as journalist at Radio Univers. He then worked at Radio Gold (2000 – 2006), GTV (2006 – 2010) then Multimedia Group as a presenter of PM Express on Multi TV (2010 – 2012).
So here was a man whose done radio and TV. When Kafui Dey was reassigned to GH One TV as the morning show’s co-host by September 2015, Arday was the man Starr FM fell on to replace Dey as the morning show host perhaps, just perhaps on the advice of Chief Executive Officer, Kwabena Adisi alias Bola Ray who was a colleague at Multimedia Group.
The rumour mill buzzed with news that Nii Arday found it curious that a progressive news network like Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB), the umbrella body which Starr FM fell under will recruit a news editor whose presence and tactics at various news rooms she’s managed led to disenchantment and resignations.
Despite his reservations, Clegg it was said was ready to co-exist with the female editor who was a onetime anchor on TV3 except the editor’s caustic words and sneers coupled with management’s decision that all persons in the news and current affairs departments must answer to the editor finally led to the parting of ways although it’s also reported Bola Ray gave Clegg 24 hours to vacate the premises.
Robert Nii Arday Clegg, a managing partner at Clegg and Everett, was recently involved in a public denunciation of one time school mate and friend Paul Adom Okyere who had alluded that their bond was so tight that Clegg had on a few occasions even wrote his exams for him. An incensed Clegg publicly demanded an apology vowing the claim was a nasty lie as no such thing happened.
And in typical style when Bola Ray turned 40 and was being hosted by Kwame Sefa Kayi, he must have uttered something regarding Clegg’s exist but not one to keep mute over a supposed untruth, Clegg twitted urging Bola Ray to stand by the truth and stop spewing lies.
Many will dare not challenge their former boss and one as powerful as Bola but not assertive Nii Arday Clegg who scored such high marks in his exams at the university that he is remembered for the feat.
It’s uncertain if Clegg will focus full attention on law practice given he is a partner at a firm or will join a new station to feed his media passion. Only time shall reveal the hidden.
