The elders do warn that one must not count his or her chicks before they are hatched while the bible does touch on the ‘race not being for the swift nor the strongest.’
For rapper, Medikal real name Samuel Frimpong such admonishing bore real meaning on Saturday night and Sunday dawn when he failed to lift even a single plaque at the 18th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) despite the buzz he generated ahead of the show.
You see, Medikal who is also dating Sis Derbie had earned 7 VGMA nominations, touring university campuses and performing on many stages, rendering popular tunes and videos and generally being the man of the moment.
But somehow, Medikal, the man with the highest 2017 VGMA nomination even if ‘Overall Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Best Rapper of the Year’ were too soon for him was also overlooked for ‘Afropop song of the Year’, ‘Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Best New Artiste of the Year’ on the night compelling Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and others to urge the young man not to despair but purpose to be dominant in the years ahead.
A visible shaken Medikal who might have been hopeful earlier on in the night must have realized the impending tragedy such that though he tried keeping a smile on his face as the categories run by, there was no doubt the young fella was fazed.
He however deserves praise by staying on for the event to conclude unlike Ras Kuuku who stormed out when he lost out in his category to Stonebwoy.
Charterhouse, the event organisers can daze and amaze with their choices and in Medikal’s case he sure will be more guarded in the years to come having leant from this episode after all it was “Too Risky” to “Confirm” his win.
