If the Angel Group of Companies hoped by staging its Adonko Aseda Bash at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, it would make good money by not charging a gate fee rather insisting that its Adonko Bitters liquor be purchased at GH¢10 as entry coupon for patrons to enjoy the show, it thought wrong.
Because even a whole day after the show, drunken youth still littered the Baba Yara pitch unable to pick themselves and head home.
Given that a football match was scheduled at the stadium, stadium authorities had to forcibly evacuate the helpless lads prompting discussions on radio as to the appropriateness of the beverage makers to demand attendees purchase their beverage.
While the company might have made a good sum from the gig which had Shatta Wale, Bisa Kdei, Ofori Amponsah, Agya Koo and Afia Schwarzenegger in attendance, regulatory body the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered that Adonko Bitters be recalled from the market citing sale of the alcoholic beverage to minors breaching the law and using popular figures to advertise the Adonko Bitters themed show.
The FDA in a statement noted the act of the beverage maker contravened section 3.2.19 of the FDA guidelines for the advertisement of food products, which states that: “No alcoholic beverage shall be advertised in relation to a public function where persons under the legal drinking age are likely to attend.”
The Authority has also fined the company GHc25,000 while investigations continue.
