Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital has a new attraction namely the Kumasi City Mall. Although the $95m facility is not fully operational, patrons were allowed to have a feel on Thursday, April 20.
The newest facility in town at Asokwa, had thousands of patrons and window shoppers in session as was a cultural troop, skaters and bicycle riders who displayed amazing skills to wow the crowd.
As could be expected, the escalators at the mall fascinated some while it scared others who tried running once they got on board leading to falls and injuries.
According to some patrons, they were delighted with the reduced prices of goods on display compared to prices on the street.
For Kofi Sekyere, Chairman of the Mall, “the response has been fantastic” adding “traffic impact assessment and security challenges were all factored in while building the facility.”
He explained the mall operators have partnered with the police to keep crime down noting there is 24/7 security surveillance to monitor activities while private guards have been hired to also beef up security.
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will inaugurate the mall on May 10.
The Kumasi City Mall is reported to have 400 shops, luxury hotel, family entertainment centres, 5 star restaurant and 82 other entertainment establishments.
It is managed by Board of Directors with the day-to-day operations run by Broll Ghana Limited as the property managers and AttAfrica Asset managers as the Asset Managers.
The facility is owned by Delico Property Limited, owners of the West Hills Mall and Achimota Retail Center.
After the Accra Mall, the West Hills Mall and the Achimota Retail Center, Kumasi folks now have their own mall and the feeling was quite deep.
