For the uninitiated, Bastie Samir, 31 was an unknown quantity till he managed to fell one of Ghana’s boxing loudmouths, Bukom Banku at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday.
But for those who follow boxing keenly, Samir Bastie is as solid as they come. The man fondly called “The Beast” was at his merciless best when he went hard into Banku on the night.
The Ghana born who now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA since 2008 was an undefeated former captain of Ghana’s amateur boxing team. He won the African Amateur Championships in the welterweight division in May 2007 when he represented Ghana, also securing the silver medal at the 2007 All-Africa Games.
Bastie who qualified for the 2008 Olympics in the light-heavyweight division was in 2016 signed onto Golden Boy Promotions run by Oscar De La Hoya showing his quality.
Victims who’s tasted Bastie’s venom include Billy Cunningham, Greg Hacket, Mavin Blair, Jacob Alvarez, Joseph Dunn and Damon Reed. He’s managed by Bernard Fetrie.
According to Bastie, he is ready for a rematch keen to beat Banku emphatically. He stated he knew Briamah Kamoko alias Bukom Banku was no match for him as he’s trained with the real Mayweather at various times and had been better exposed to technical opponents than Banku.
